It's an early start this morning to travel down 'The Track' (Stuart Highway), heading to the amazing Nitmiluk National Park and Katherine Gorge. Your Drive Guide will keep you entertained along the way with stories about Australia's longest highway and the history of the region.

  • Join a two hour scenic cruise through Katherine Gorge in Nitmiluk National Park
  • Get a chance to see fresh water crocodiles and birdlife
  • Visit Adelaide River War Memorial
  • Dive into the refreshing Leliyn (Edith Falls)

Katherine Gorge is a network of thirteen gorges carved from billion-year-old sandstone country by the Katherine River in Nitmiluk National Park. Aboriginal culture is strong in the area and there are many Aboriginal rock art sites dotted throughout the park. It is a haven for nature lovers, with its rugged landscapes, dramatic waterfalls and lush gorges providing an abundance of flora and fauna.

Leaving Darwin we travel south through tropical country, passing former WWII airstrips en route to Adelaide River. We make a short stop at the Adelaide River War Cemetery, a site dedicated to those killed in the air raids in Darwin in the 1940’s. Continue to Edith Falls, where there is time for a refreshing swim in the paperbark and pandanas fringed waterhole beneath the falls (conditions permitting).

After your included lunch, we join a 2 hour scenic cruise through Katherine Gorge in Nitmiluk National Park, with a chance to see freshwater crocodiles sunning themselves on the banks of the river and many interesting species of birdlife. Our tour of the first two gorges takes us past sheer rock walls and requires a short walk to reach the second gorge. Enjoy a drive back through the township of Katherine, the hub of the region’s cattle and farming industries. Travel via Pine Creek, an historic gold mining town, to our evening stop where you may purchase dinner at Emerald Springs (own expense) before returning to Darwin.

"I traveled on a 3 day Kakadu & Litchfield tour in September 2015. The tour was great...the guide was extremely knowledgable and we were able to see some amazing sites including Jim Jim Falls! The camping facilities were comfortable, and everyone on the tour had a good time. The agents at Travel Freedom were able to help me with my questions, payment was easy, and confirmed shortly after. I would recommend them to anyone looking to book tours in Australia."

Demi Thompson (UK)

"I booked the 1 Day Litchfield & Jumping Crocs tour with Travel Freedom and it was a crazy amazing day! The crocs jump right out in front of you, and then waterfalls in Litchfield were great to swim in on a hot day! Thanks to Travel Freedom for the easy booking service and cheap price. I recommend them to anyone wanting to book tours and accommodation in Darwin!"

Trude Maman (DK)

"Thanks for your organising our trip to Katherine Gorge, it was a fantastic experience and we thoroughly enjoyed it, and the tour operator was very professional, as was everyone that was involved in the various locations that we went to.

We will contact Freedom Travel when we are looking for our next adventure.

Peter Martin (AUS)

"We loved our two days in Kakadu. Loved opportunities to enjoy waterholes, spectacular views, landforms, rocks, trees, birds, unfortunately, no crocodiles! Tom our guide was generous with his time, effort and knowledge. Thanks to him we had an enjoyable time and learned much about Aboriginal art and history and about the environment
of Kakadu. We loved sleeping under the stars! "
